Aiming to appease regulators and accelerate the closing of its $3.9 purchase of Tribune Media, Sinclair Broadcast Group says it will sell 23 TV stations in 18 markets to six different buyers. The spinoffs add seven new markets to the original 11 the company had earmarked for sale back in February.
Tribune Media CEO Peter Kern said Sinclair’s latest move was intended to “pave the way for regulatory approval” of the blockbuster deal.

There will be no long goodbye for Cumulus Media classic rock “The Loop” WLUP-FM Chicago (97.9). While the classic rock music continues to play on the frequency, there are no jocks and little mention of the station’s demise on air.

Sinclair Broadcast Group’s blockbuster $3.9 billion deal to buy Tribune Media would create the largest local broadcast television platform in the country.
But as Sinclair files paperwork disclosing which TV stations it’ll spin-off to comply with ownership limits, the company is signaling it has no plan to sell the lone radio station included in the transaction.
